The Good Shepards

THE GOOD SHEPHERDS

This quilt is based on the passage from Ezekiel 34:11-16 which describes the good shepherd who feeds, rescues, gathers, and pastures his sheep. I made this quilt to show how this story is being lived out in late the 20th century through a program that helps children to study and have music, sports and summer programs in the context of inner city poverty, crime and drugs. The reason why these children are not getting involved in asocial behaviors are their good shepherds, shown as the classical good shepherd image sewn to the background of the supporting textile, just as the members of the good shepherd program are supporting these inner city youth.
