May 2007 marked the sixty year anniversary of the Nakba, the disenfranchisement of over 750,000 Palestinians from their homes of centuries. It was also the creation of a state for the Jews. A tragedy for one people and a celebration for the other. Demonstrators holding signs & singing on the mall helped educate Americans that the sooner we have a US government policy which addresses ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian lands, the sooner this situation will be resolved. With the occupation’s ending the Palestinians would have their own legal system which would oversee the sale and use of land and water and a political system they can control themselves.
